I recently booked my trip to Tampa for a visit to my roommate and my other friends from PRSSA National Assembly. I was lucky enough to share a room with only one other girl, and we each had our own queen sized bed for three nights! (The hotel room was bigger than my dorm!) After a crazy few days in Charleston filled with leadership workshops, elections, networking and adventures, we all flew, or drove back to our respective cities.
I am very excited to be heading down to Florida to see these incredible ladies once again. This trip really highlights how amazing PRSSA is and the opportunities it allots to its members. I would've never met such amazing people without being a part of PRSSA.
As a young PR professional I think it is important to understand and take ahold of the opportunities available early on. The decisions and actions we take now can help a lot in our futures. Intern, get out there and see if you really like what your learning in the classroom. Meet new people, they probably have cool insights and a different way of thinking. Lately i've been trying to absorb and understand others thought process. This really allows you to connect with even more people and understand the way people work. (Which is super helpful in PR)
If you feel like there isn't an internship or job open to you, make one for yourself. Contact people with your best foot forward and good things will happen. It's important to be proactive now so your career doesn't suffer later on. Most professionals are very helpful to those who are eager and ready to learn. Take your opportunities and run with them. This is your life and it's time to get started.
