Today the Honors Program Girls all got up early, braced ourselves and got on a subway to Queens. Our destination, Flushing, our expectations, low. Filling a whole subway car, we all pilled onto the 7 train, murmuring and wishing for a quick and painless trip. The subway ride there already had our expectations lifted. Sights life 5 pointz and urban culture, created interest and stirred curiosity. When the subway car arrived and we resurfaced into the world, it was a completely different scene than our usual trips around Chelsea. Little shops, ethnic food, beauty stores and Chinese writing and Korean culture surrounded the group. Breaking off into smaller groups we set out to explore this newfound treasure.
The first shop discovered was a Korean beauty store, Nature Republic. Korean writing covered the labels and little bits of English could be discovered if one really looked. There I got three facial masks! It was a really nice store and moderately priced!
Next we headed to the mall, and the supermarket inside. Every isle there was some new food we had never heard of and wanted to try. I even got a beef dumpling sample!
After the mall we headed out on Main street, trying street food, getting bubble tea and going to local bakeries. It was a really enriching experience and I hope to go back soon!
