After my field trip I grabbed my bags, a cup of coffee and eagerly headed up to the west side to catch the bus. This was my first time going to Boston and I was packed and ready for the weekend ahead. When arriving finally at 34th street in between 11th and 12th avenue I was greeting by an open sidewalk and huge lines. I got on one that consisted of only a few people near a metal sign with the word “Boston” printed in white bold letters. I was 45 minutes early. Waiting there I started talk to the two people flanking myself as the line began to grow. The woman was form Austria, visiting the U.S, the man behind me worked in New York and was heading down to visit someone on valentines day. I discovered in Austria her college education only cost 300 euros a semester and that Germany is having a warm winter. As we chatted, complete strangers we waited eagerly for dinner reservations, drinks and friends were awaiting us. Buses came and went, lines filed down and yet we were still standing in the front of this line. At about 5pm our bus pulled up. We shuffled on ready to begin our journey. The bus ride really just consisted of music.
Pulling into the Boston Bus Terminal I was a little nervous. I decided to opt for a taxi on the advice of my friends. The ride was nice, Boston is pretty spread out, and not as built up as New York. The bridges were lit up with rainbow lights as I drove by and it was nice to take in the city as I headed toward my hotel. Fifteen minutes and twenty dollars later I was at the hotel. Taking the elevator up to the fifth floor I knocked on room 515.
The next day was an early rise at 7am. We all got ready on time – surprising everyone and got in a taxi headed to starbucks. Meeting one of our friends there, we headed to the center where our conference was being held. We all got our name lanyards, some breakfast and obviously more coffee. Then the conference began.

The first rounds of speakers were both motivational and somewhat informational. C.C. Chapman was our wake up, and he gave a really good presentation about life and our career. I thought it was interesting about the idea of buying our name as a domain on the Internet. I need to get on that.
After the two keynote speakers we broke off to mingle for a few minutes. Coconut water, Kind bars and networking. We met a boy who is transferring to NYU. NYU has a relatively new PRSSA chapter and we are currently thinking of ways to partner with them. Although it was odd when he said “I can tell you're from FIT because of the way you all are dressed." Mainly because everyone in the room was basically wearing a blazer. Anyway, we talked with him for a bit and then broke off into smaller seminars.
My first seminar was about google glass, and startups. Very interesting considering I am interning at a startup currently. I really enjoyed the presenters who brought up some good points. I also learned about a newer company/app that is about sharing places through small video clips and pictures along with an address and recommendation. Afterward I talked to both men about there ventures, got some really good advice and business cards.
Then there was speed networking which I chose not to participate in. Then came lunch which was pleasant. Ah – then the challenge.
For the challenge we were randomly split into groups. Then we were given a background and a pitch on what a client wanted. We had to come up with a campaign. I was the group speaker and my group won! We won a free copy of CC Chapman’s book!
After the competition we heard a small bit form the PRSSA national VP and the PRSA correspondent. Then we left in a rush to get back to the hotel after a long day.
More will be posted about the nights in Boston later - for now let's stick with the reason I went! - Good day Loves. xoxo
