My Job, well internship, requires me to be constantly connected to social media. This in some ways can be annoying, constantly checking and rechecking the same sites for a piece of information or the next big thing. However, it usually ends up very well and today I came across an event at a downtown bookstore. The store was actually called Public Housing Works books and most of the profits go to fight against homelessness and AIDS/HIV. It was called Never Have I Ever, and it was presenting a comedic yet insightful book about relationships along with some other antidotes from various writers and comedians. I am known to be not so great at relationships, so I thought i'd check out the event. The book store was amazing in itself, an open space with balconies containing even more books on either side, and a cafe in the back. Wood railings, twisting stairs and ladders brought about reminiscence from the beauty and the beast library. Turns out, it was amazing. Comedy blended with the lessons of real life through these relationship stories. Texting was even infused into the punch line, but really, how can it not be incorporated in some way nowadays. Stories of old relationships brought back memories of AIM and when people used to call each other. The stories resinated very close to me and I had a wonderful time. Bravo to an amazing performance by all who spoke and by the author of the book. I definitely will be back to the book store for more of their events.
Relationships are difficult, especially in Manhattan. I can say this, because i've experienced first hand some of the awkwardness, craziness and overall chaos that involves dating. So let us press on through the wind.
Happy Dating. xoxo
