Today was filled with expectations as well as surprises. The day started off with me visiting my Dads worksite for coffee and to pick up a few more things for my dorm. It is really nice to be able to have someone so close to me, where I can go over at any time. Orientation was both informational and very very dry. Some seminaries proved to be better than others. A lunch brake allowed me to meet even more new people, something I love to do.
Then the day transitioned to something completely different. The honors meeting was packed with new faces, all ready to tackle the year, like we always have done with school. The group began with a question game, too loosen up as well as get to know each others names and faces. Then our professor went into the requirements and standards of the group. In turns out I am actually in the wrong English class. Oops! The online system had told me to surpass it due to an AP credit, but all honors students are required to take it no matter what. So I must now be reentered into the class. The good news is I didn't schedule any classes on the day the honors english runs so it's an easy transition, but one my professor must do. Okay back to the day, instead of emphasizing my mistakes. Yes even I can make mistakes. (Although not often) The honors kids split into groups of 5 going out to explore The High Line, which is an elevated walking park on the west side. There we got to know some of our fellow pres scholars more while enjoying a beautiful treasure of Chelsea. In the "park" there was a man allowing you to paint on small pieces of cardboard, where after he would place them on his larger sculpture. It was such a surreal experience to participate in something so collective and so local, for the first time I felt like a true New Yorker. After our little art excursion, we came across a Shakespeare monologue actor. I asked him to recite some of my own favorites, ill try not to bore you with my admiration of shakespearian literature, and then we were on our way home. Later I will meet my friend in their dorm to see a scary movie and then who knows what tomorrow will bring! This is only the beginning.
