Walking back to school from my internship today I was crossing Park Avenue and I saw a very stereo-typical New York Site. Everyone crossing the street was wearing black. My smile only grew when I looked down and realized my own outfit was absent of color as well.
Being a publicity assistant requires me to be up-to-date with all of the latest news, culture and happenings. I use variety of media sources and little shortcuts to get all the info I need to stay on top of everything, without dedicating hours scouring the internet. I thought I might as well share these helpful little sites because the more the merrier!
The Skimm
They have a website and twitter. On here are just little bits of news. Nothing in depth but enough to refresh you about what is going on. It is a good jumping-off point. When you read something on here and it sounds interesting, you can always search the news more for additional information. (http://www.theskimm.com/)
NY Times Twitter: What you need to know pages
In the morning the NYTimes tweets a link to these pages! They have little anecdotes about the city and what is going on.

EverythingNYC
An amazing twitter account bringing you news and even just little nice things about NYC. (https://twitter.com/EverythingNYC)
Racked NYC
An amazing site with shopping deals, pop up shop news and other NYC related activities. A great way to stay in the loop of culture! (http://ny.racked.com/)
Gothamist
NYC blog bringing you news and culture. One of my favorites was the coffee shop subway map; a map of a cool independent coffee place near every subway stop in NYC.
