There always seems to be some sort of theme for the day, weather its surprises, relaxation, or in todays case Honors. I had my first Honors class at FIT today, English 362. I absolutely loved the Professor and am excited for the upcoming course material. The topic is creative non-fiction which is new and foreign to me. What i'm coming to understand about the genre, is the connectivity between a writer, the reader and emotion. Instead of cut and dry facts writing can be presented in a way that is interesting just as much as it is factual. In english next week, there will be a, hopefully, riveting discussion on gender. Gender as a physical presence, gender as a mental state, gender roles, and gender specified ideals. I am extremely interested in sexuality and gender as it pertains to ideology and from that ideology the shaping of culture and cultural habits. Objectification of gender is one specific area I am intrigued in, and the relationship between objectification and the fashion industry. I wrote a whole thesis on it senior year, however I am in the process of revising it to encompass some of my most recent ideas, discoveries and experiences. Being a student at FIT gender as my professor said "is like the elephant in the room". The boundaries of gender are almost completely broken down here. Masculine style can be incorporated into a look for a straight or gay, male or female. This of course includes bisexual, and transgender. The same concept applies with traditional concepts of "feminine" style. Living in this environment is refreshing, knowing you can express yourself through clothes in any shape or form, but the clothes do not box you in as an individual. I don't think I talk about FIT's street style enough, so here I go.
If you would like to see some diversity in style, come on down to 27th and 7th. Every style, look, trend, is represented. One can find outfit inspiration by just looking out of their window. Some looks are eclectic, while others prefer polished and put together. Many will dress girly one day and punk the next, changing yet again into bohemian for the weekend. Here we are chameleons, always adapting or maybe even trying to stick out, but with the ability to morph and to change. I find that the ultimate representation of art and beauty.

Superb conversation, the kind where the table delves into not only the question, but related topics and issues. Gatsby was discussed as well as analyzed. The true nature of both the book and film were contemplated. Food was eaten, coffee consumed and hours passed quite quickly
