Yesterday morning I had the rare pleasure of enjoying my city at a leisurely pace. Most, well all of the time you might find me speed walking, coffee in hand, headed to class, work or a meeting. Tuesday morning however was time set aside to show a friend the upper east side. We were set to meet on west 72nd street and Central Park. As I left Grand Central and headed up Fifth Avenue, I started grinning like a child on christmas morning. I had forgotten how much I loved this part of town. Walking along the base of the park was magical, it wasn't too hot yet and my magenta knit dress soaked in the early morning rays and the songs of the scattered bird. Reaching Columbus Circle, I smiled even wider remembering my favorite dinner spot was just steps away. On 72nd street I sat at the edge of the park took out my book, and happily read a few chapters while enjoying the breeze.
I met my friend and we talked our way through Central Park, myself noticing a lighter step. Headed down Madison, I took her to Laduree, then FAO Schwarz, and then just sitting to talk on the edge of the park. As I walked back down 5th Avenue (A lot of walking - I know) this warmness flooded over me. I always get reminders of how much I am in love with this city. When I was little I would visit this Avenue in this part of town to visit my dad's work and see the luxury designer stores come to life. Someday I hope to be able to shop in these places and not just admire the fine pieces of leather and beautiful shoes.
I love 5th Avenue yes, but Madison Avenue north of 55th Street is one of my favorite walks. Try it sometime, you might find a hidden treasure.
Happy Exploring. Xoxo
