How to cope with Your Campaign Being Scrapped
It happens to the best of us. You've been working on a campaign for weeks, sometimes months and then in a quick turn around, its scrapped. Campaigns are changed or discarded for so many reasons, most of the time, none of them are involving you or your work. It could be a twitter chat, event, Facebook ad campaign, or social media re-working. Yet it is still really hard to separate yourself from the fact it isn't going to run and feel better. Here are a few coping tips for when your hard work gets tossed.
Remember it's not you it's them
Think about all that you've learned - Usually after putting that much time into a project you come out with helpful tips and tricks. These shouldn't be forgotten as soon as the campaign ends. Catalog them and keep them in your back pocket for when you need to whip out that creativity card in a pinch.
Regroup & Refresh - Talk to your client about what worked in the last campaign and what didn't. Have a clear road map of the journey ahead. Take an hour to sit down and flesh out all of the details that need to be nixed or changed and then get back to the drawing board.
Breath - Just sit back and take a breath. These things happen and you love your job because of this fast paced crazy environment. Remind yourself of that and use your passion for this field to come up with an even better plan! A glass of Rose wouldn't hurt either.
Happy Working. xoxo
- Something probably changed or some external force shifted the marketplace. Just because your campaign is no longer relevant to this brand or this exact time frame doesn't mean it isn't the highest of quality. Do not take this personally, it's hard not too naturally because it's your work, but things change and sometimes a campaign has to as well.
