After hearing about this restaurant for quite sometime while living in New York City, I thought I would finally investigate myself. The perfect opportunity arose when my friend flew up from Florida for a short visit. Our other friend form NYU joined us and the three ladies headed out at 11pm on a Friday for a dinner reservation. The establishment is located on the south-west corner of 16th and 9th Avenue. Although it’s a demure black box from the outside, the contents are well worth exploring. Walking in one doesn’t stumble upon a simple hostess stand. There is a long black counter with four girls waiting to check parties in and take your coats, behind them a giant tapestry. Walking up only a couple of steps there is a bar area with community style seating. As you walk into the belly of the restaurant one can look down on the crown jewel. A giant dining room in the middle with huge elegant chandeliers, this room sets the ambiance for the rest of the establishment. We were seated in a red room on the second floor. There are many different rooms with coordinating décor and theme.
Our food was even better than the décor. Served family style, whatever one orders is served, as it is ready to the table as a whole. For a party of three we ordered four appetizers and two sides. This was even too much food! The dumplings were spicy and the noodles savory. I thoroughly enjoyed my late night dinner, not leaving until 2am! Good thing I live in the city that never sleeps.
To go out to dinner I wore black disco pants, a lace collared top, a blazer and Steve Madden burgundy wedges. The restaurant calls for downtown chic and every one there seemed to be dressed very well. Definitely a place I will be going again. Cheers to late night dinners, visits form friends, good food and New York City. XOXO
