September, what makes this month so special? For one, it is my birthday month, and back to school season. However what really makes September a crazy month is Fashion, to be more specific New York Fashion Week.
Some may denounce the importance of these shows or the industry in general. I want you to look down at your outfit. You or someone you know bought these clothes. The fabric, choice of color, cut and assembly of the garment all involve the fashion industry. Even if you don’t buy designer items, you buy into the industry.
In class today we reviewed a few shows, while noting some trends and patterns. It’s hard not to get caught up in fashion week. The aura of fashion shows and a new season is so appealing to me. When I volunteer or intern for a show I relish that atmosphere. It’s organized chaos, a circus of models, crew people and frantic management staff. Last minute decisions and hiccups are always dealt with, sometimes with more grace than others. I’m not sure if this accurately conveys my absolute addiction to this industry. I crave the adrenaline of shows, all of the preparation leading up to that final moment of music, mood, and cloth.
As I go through the Elle and Vogue September issues I know this is exactly where I am mean to be and what I should be doing. Notes, and comments on the issues very soon. Not to mention I am already prepping for next years Charity fashion show. Wish me Luck. xoxo
